SENATE DENIES CLASH BETWEEN AKPABIO AND BAMIDELE, SAYS REPORTS MISLEADING

The Nigerian Senate has dismissed media reports alleging a clash between the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, during a recent executive session.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, issued a statement on Sunday refuting the claims, describing them as baseless and a misrepresentation of legislative procedures.
“Our attention has been drawn to diverse media reports claiming that the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, clashed during an executive session recently convened to deliberate whether the Senate should proceed on annual recess,” the statement read. “The reports do not contain any iota of truth.”
Adaramodu clarified that what occurred was a normal part of parliamentary debate and decision-making, which was being wrongly portrayed as internal conflict.
He explained that robust debate is a global parliamentary tradition and a sign of a healthy democracy not an indication of division. “Every bill, motion, and proposal is always subjected to intense scrutiny in our chamber almost on a daily basis. This entails robust debates to which members discuss and dissect every initiative before the Senate purely in the interest of over 230 million Nigerians,” he said.
He further urged the public not to mistake standard deliberations for personal altercations or disunity, emphasizing that the leadership remains united and committed to national interests.
