Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he is representing Nigeria at the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit scheduled for July 27 to 29.
Shettima confirmed his participation via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, noting that he will join global leaders for high-level discussions on transforming global food systems and enhancing international collaboration on food security.
The summit will assess progress made since the inaugural edition in 2021, with a renewed focus on accelerating action towards building resilient, inclusive, and climate-smart food systems.
As part of his itinerary, the Vice President will engage in critical sessions on advancing Africa’s coffee value chain and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the continent.
He is also expected to attend ministerial roundtables, field visits, and networking engagements designed to showcase practical models of food systems transformation.
Other significant meetings on Shettima’s agenda include dialogues on public finance, trade facilitation, and responsible investment areas pivotal to long-term reforms of food production and distribution systems in Africa.
The summit presents an opportunity for Nigeria to deepen partnerships and attract support for its agricultural and food security agenda amid global climate and economic challenges.
