Club Brugge Star Arnaut drops Dutch surname for Nigerian name
Club Brugge Dutch-Nigerian star Arnaut Groeneveld has dropped a big hint regarding his international future which suggest Nigeria could be ahead of the Netherlands in the quest to cap him at senior level.
Born in Nigeria, the 21-year-old has already represented the Netherlands four times at U-21 level but he appears to be leaning towards representing Nigeria at senior level, if his latest action is anything to go by.
He has dropped his Dutch surname Groeneveld for a Nigerian name Danjuma, and that is the name he wishes to be called as it is what he now wears on the back of his jersey at Belgium side Club Brugge.
In Nigerian Hausa language, the name Danjuma is usually given to a child born on Friday and the two goal hero for Club Brugge in their weekend win over Kortrijk could be closing in on pledging his allegiance to Nigeria at senior level.
Already Nigeria have succeeded in luring Tyronne Ebuehi who was also eligible for the Netherlands and a move for Danjuma who can operate on the flanks as a forward of as a wing-back looks shouldn’t be ruled out.
