POLICE ARREST MAN CARRYING GUNPOWDER IN GARRI BAG
The Anambra State Police Command has detained two suspects and a significant amount of gunpowder hidden in a bag of garri has been recovered.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, one locally manufactured pistol and live ammo were also found during the search.
The achievement was made possible, according to the command, while its Joint Security Force, which is directed by the Police, was conducting a routine, intelligence-driven sweep around the Aguata pillar-pole region on Sunday.
The command said that it had stopped a suspect—name withheld—carrying three Garri bags.
During the suspect’s search, the agents found a significant amount of gunpowder underneath the edible.
Preliminary information suggested that the suspect was enrooted to a criminal camp to give goods for consumption and gunpowder for the production of improvised bombs for the gang. While in custody, the suspect is helping the police apprehend the other gang members.
In a related development, Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) operators raided a criminal hideout in Oba Idemili South LGA early today, acting on credible information. They apprehended Nelson Wisdom, a resident of Etsako East, Edo State, and seized a locally made pistol that contained two live rounds.
Speaking, CP Nnaghe Itam, the Commissioner of Police, reaffirmed that the Police Command and other security agencies will keep acting on intelligence to support ongoing operations and thwart the malicious schemes of State criminal elements.
“All suspects shall be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement added.
