The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the release of Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, on administrative bail following his interrogation over a viral video in which he was seen holding a gun-like object.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the item recovered from the clergyman was a stun gun, not a lethal weapon or conventional firearm. Hundeyin clarified on Tuesday that although the object was not deadly, it is classified as a prohibited anti-riot device under Nigerian law.
Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily appeared at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters on Tuesday morning, where he was questioned in connection with the widely circulated footage. In the video, the pastor appeared to brandish the object during a traffic situation involving another road user.
“He was interrogated and voluntarily gave a cautionary statement to police investigators,” Hundeyin said, adding that Adefarasin was later granted administrative bail while investigations continue.
The video, which surfaced in early June, stirred public debate and online speculation, with some claiming that the popular pastor was wielding a handgun. The claims gained traction after the footage was posted by a TikToker known for filming luxury cars.
Responding to the backlash, Pastor Adefarasin released a statement to his congregation via social media, where he denied the allegations. He insisted that the object was not a firearm and stressed that he never pointed it at anyone.
The police have not indicated when the investigation will be concluded but assured the public that due process is being followed.
