EKITI MAN ARRAIGNED FOR THREATENING TO BURN WIFE AND CHILDREN ALIVE

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 55-year-old man, Afolabi Samuel, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti for allegedly threatening to set his wife and children ablaze.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the incident occurred on June 22 at about 9:00 a.m. in the Olokuta Matthew area of Ado Ekiti. He told the court that the defendant had purchased petrol and kept a box of matches by his side, threatening to use them to kill his family.

Oriyomi also noted that the defendant’s actions on the day in question constituted conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The charges brought against Samuel are punishable under Sections 69 and 181(d) of the Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2021.

Defense counsel Joy Raphael appealed to the court for bail on behalf of her client, assuring that he would not jump bail.

Presiding Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to July 22 for hearing.

Adeosun also warned the defendant to maintain good conduct until the next court appearance.
