FG FINALLY FULFILS 30-YEAR HOUSING PROMISE TO 1994 SUPER EAGLES SQUAD

The Federal Government has officially fulfilled its three-decade-old pledge of housing allocations to members of Nigeria’s 1994 Super Eagles team, which clinched the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Tunisia.
This development was confirmed in a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday.
One of the beneficiaries, former Nigerian international striker Efan Ekoku, received an allocation letter for a house in Abuja. Ekoku, who was not present at the ceremony, was represented by his niece, Lisa Jenifer Nwagbogun.
The Director and Head of Department, Public Building and Housing Development, Pemi Temitope, presented the allocation letter on behalf of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Temitope reaffirmed the government’s commitment to honouring national heroes whose sacrifices brought glory to the country.
Nwagbogun expressed her gratitude on behalf of the former footballer, saying, “I am deeply grateful to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Housing for fulfilling this long-standing pledge to my uncle. This gesture not only honours Mr. Efan Ekoku’s service but also restores faith in the value of public promises being kept.”
The housing promise was originally made in 1994, following Nigeria’s AFCON triumph, but was left unfulfilled until 2022, when then-President Muhammadu Buhari approved its implementation.
Members of the victorious squad are now receiving housing units in various parts of the country, with some, like Ekoku, allocated homes in the Federal Capital Territory.
