The Lagos State Government has denied claims by Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, that it was responsible for the demolition of a property allegedly belonging to his brother.

In a statement issued on Monday, the government described the allegation as “baseless and unverified,” insisting that neither the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) nor any arm of the state government was involved in the said demolition.

Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, the Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development who supervises LASBCA, confirmed that the agency did not carry out any demolition related to the property in question. “We find it disturbing that Mr. Peter Obi would make such allegations without verifying the facts,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining safety across the state, the Lagos State Government warned that any individual or group involved in illegal demolition or any act of lawlessness would be prosecuted.

To further address the matter, the government has directed the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, FNIA, to oversee a full investigation by LASBCA to uncover the circumstances surrounding the demolition and take appropriate action where necessary.

While urging the public to disregard Mr. Obi’s claims, the government emphasized that Lagos remains open and welcoming to all Nigerians. “We assure all residents of our continued commitment to their safety and well-being,” the statement concluded.
