The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, attended the funeral of his uncle in Rumuepirikom, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Wike was accompanied at the ceremony by suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, suspended Speaker of the State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and several other dignitaries.

Their appearance together comes shortly after a high-level peace meeting in Abuja, convened by President Bola Tinubu to address the protracted political crisis in Rivers State.

During the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu held talks with Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and other state lawmakers in an effort to bring an end to the months-long political standoff.

The President had earlier declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, citing rising insecurity and the breakdown of cooperation among key state actors — an action that led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly.

Speaking after the closed-door session, Wike announced that both camps had finally reached an agreement to end hostilities and work together.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family,” Wike told journalists.
