Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber, Omotayo Iwajomo, and recovered an AK-49 assault rifle along with various rounds of ammunition during a coordinated intelligence-led operation.

The arrest was made on Monday, July 15, 2025, by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) who raided a suspected criminal hideout in the Ajegunle area of Ikorodu, following actionable intelligence.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the raid led to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle, three magazines, fifteen rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, three rounds of 9mm K2 ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Iwajomo is allegedly involved in a series of armed robberies and land-grabbing operations across Lagos State, using the seized weapon in his criminal activities. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and dismantle the syndicate.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the SCID team for their swift and professional action. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining public safety through proactive and intelligence-driven policing, warning that Lagos remains hostile territory for criminal elements.

The suspect is expected to be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
