2024 SCHOLARSHIP AND BURSARY AWARDEES DEMAND IMMEDIATE PAYMENT FROM FG
Agency Report
Thousands of Nigerian students have called on the Federal Government to urgently release funds for the 2024 National Scholarship and Education Bursary Awards, citing severe financial and academic strain caused by a prolonged delay in disbursement.
In an open letter addressed to the Minister of Education, the Director-General of the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB), and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the beneficiaries expressed frustration that, despite receiving award letters in February 2024 with a clear payment timeline set for October 2024, no funds have been released as of August 2025.
The letter, which was also copied to the Presidency and the Nigerian public, stated that the delay has disrupted the academic progress and welfare of thousands of students across the country. The beneficiaries stressed that the scheme, which is both merit- and need-based, was designed to promote academic excellence and ease the financial burden on deserving students.
