EPL: NEWCASTLE’S £69M WOLTEMADE SIGNING PAVES WAY FOR ISAK TRANSFER

BY OWOLABI OKUWADARA
Newcastle United has opened the possibility for Alexander Isak to depart, as they near the acquisition of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.
The German forward is anticipated to arrive on Tyneside this evening to undergo a medical examination prior to a club-record transfer.
As reported by the media on Friday, Woltemade’s introduction increases the likelihood of Isak joining Liverpool, with fewer than four days left in the transfer window. Newcastle’s readiness to negotiate coincides with Liverpool’s preparation of a British-record offer for the Swedish striker.
The Magpies have consented to pay £64.86 million (€75 million) plus £4.3 million (€5 million) in performance-related bonuses for the Stuttgart striker, bringing the total package to just over £69 million and exceeding the £63 million they allocated for Isak three years prior.

Woltemade will travel to the North East on Thursday to undergo a medical on Friday.
Newcastle have maintained that Isak would only be sold if an adequate replacement was found, and that now appears to be the case.
Liverpool had a £110m plus add-ons bid for Isak rejected earlier in the summer, so they will have to increase their offer to reach an agreement with Newcastle. Isak is adamant he will not play for his current club again and has yet to feature this season.
Once Woltemade is through the door of St James’ Park, it is then down to Liverpool to make their move.
