The Federal Government has secured 200 hectares of land within the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos, to establish a building materials hub designed to reduce housing production costs and boost local content.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, disclosed this on Thursday during an inspection tour of industrial projects within the Lekki and Lagos Free Zones, which are integrated with the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
Dangiwa explained that the initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at lowering construction costs, encouraging domestic production, and enhancing affordable housing delivery nationwide.

“The building materials hub will promote local content, curb rising costs of materials, encourage domestic production, and ensure sustainable housing delivery nationwide,” he said.
The minister revealed that the Lagos hub would serve as the pilot project, with similar hubs planned for other geopolitical zones across the country. He also confirmed that an investor had been secured to drive the project.
According to him, the hub is expected to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit by boosting local production, creating jobs, and cutting foreign exchange spending on imported materials. He added that its efficiency would be supported by intermodal transport infrastructure including seaport, airport, rail, and road networks.
During the visit, Dangiwa, accompanied by the Managing Director of Lekki Worldwide Investments Ltd, Adeniyi Akinlusi, commended the company for providing a strategic site and driving growth in the Free Zone.
He also praised Alaro City for its sustainable building practices, which he said align with government plans to close Nigeria’s housing deficit through public-private partnerships.
Earlier, Akinlusi described the 16,500-hectare Lekki Free Trade Zone as a driver of growth and investment, highlighting its role in job creation, real estate expansion, and reducing imports.
Industry leaders within the zone showcased power plants, manufacturing sites, and ongoing projects to the minister during the tour.
