VIDEO: MASSIVE GRIDLOCK STRANDS HUNDREDS ON LAGOS–IBADAN EXPRESSWAY
Commuters and drivers were ensnared for multiple hours in a congestion at the Ibadan, Oyo State segment of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which extended from the Soka vicinity of the road and reached beyond the Toll Gate on Wednesday.
This incident ensued following a demonstration regarding the demolition of residences in the Circular Road area that commenced early in the day, reportedly organized by local residents and property owners impacted by the destruction.
The demonstrators obstructed portions of the expressway, resulting in a halt that left hundreds of travelers and commercial drivers immobilized.
The traffic jam spanned several kilometers, with numerous commuters compelled to walk long distances to circumvent the congestion.
The media reports that drivers in the Interchange section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway experienced similar entrapment on Tuesday due to prolonged congestion from ongoing construction activities.
This occurred barely 24 hours after a protest by some Oyo State residents regarding the anticipated expansion of Circular Road, which impeded traffic along the expressway.
The gridlock, which initiated in the early hours of Tuesday and persisted until evening, was said to have extended to the adjacent Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, stretching from the Ogere area to the Lufwape segment of the expressway.
