The Imo State Police Command has concluded arrangements to arraign five men arrested for the brutal assault of a 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu, in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this on Monday in Owerri, noting that the suspects were captured in a viral video violently beating the woman.

The Imo Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had on November 3, 2025, ordered an immediate investigation and the arrest of the culprits after the disturbing footage surfaced online.

According to Okoye, five of the six suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the sixth suspect, who is currently on the run.

Those arrested include Onyekachi Njoku, 40; Chiazor Osuji, 45; Chukwuma Iwuala, 46; Eugene Njoku; and Njoku Emmanuel, 35 all from Uboegbelu in Emekuku, Owerri North LGA.

In the viral video, the six men were seen repeatedly beating Ndidiamaka, ignoring pleas from another woman urging them to stop. The attackers also attempted to assault the woman recording the video and tried to forcefully break into her home.

Okoye said operatives of the X-Squad Unit acted swiftly following the CP’s directive, arresting the five suspects, all of whom have confessed to participating in the assault.

He identified the fleeing suspect as Onyedikachi Njoku, adding that police operatives are intensifying efforts to track him down.

“The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soon with appropriate criminal charges,” Okoye stated.

He added that the Commissioner of Police strongly condemned the attack, warning that the Police would not tolerate any form of intimidation or assault against citizens who lawfully cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
