GERMANY THRASH SLOVAKIA 6–0 TO SEAL 2026 WORLD CUP SPOT AS SANE, WOLTEMADE SHINE IN LEIPZIG

Germany stormed into the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a dominant 6–0 victory over Slovakia on Monday in Leipzig, producing their most convincing performance of the qualifying campaign.
Leroy Sane struck twice, in-form forward Nick Woltemade netted his third consecutive goal, while Serge Gnabry, Ridle Baku, and debutant Assan Ouedraogo also found the target in the emphatic win.
The result confirmed Germany as Group A winners, securing automatic qualification for next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Slovakia, who defeated Germany in the reverse fixture, finished second and now head to the play-offs.
Germany, often criticized for sluggish performances against weaker opponents, took full control early and went into the break 4–0 up. Woltemade opened the scoring in the 18th minute, extending his hot streak as Germany’s scorer of their last four goals across three matches.
Gnabry doubled the lead 11 minutes later, after goalkeeper Oliver Baumann denied Slovakia’s Michal Duris at the other end.
Florian Wirtz then took charge, delivering two superb assists for Sane within five minutes, as Germany went into half-time cruising.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann replaced captain Joshua Kimmich in the second half, and substitute Baku made an instant impact, smashing home Germany’s fifth just two minutes after coming on.
Teenage sensation Assan Ouedraogo completed the rout in front of his home fans, capping the night with a memorable debut goal.
The victory Germany’s fifth straight not only secured World Cup qualification but also guaranteed a favourable seeding for the four-time champions, reducing their chances of facing another top-tier nation early in the tournament.
Nagelsmann will take encouragement from the commanding display, especially with several key players including Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Antonio Rüdiger, and Marc-André ter Stegen set to return from injury in the coming months.
