MBAPPÉ, PSG CLASH IN FRENCH LABOUR COURT AS BOTH PARTIES FILE MASSIVE FINANCIAL CLAIMS

The long-running dispute between Kylian Mbappé and his former club Paris Saint-Germain escalated on Monday as both sides presented staggering financial claims before the French labour court.

Mbappé, now with Real Madrid, is demanding €263 million from PSG, while the Ligue 1 champions have countered with an even larger claim of €440 million against the France captain.

The explosive confrontation marked one of the most high-profile cases to reach the French labour tribunal in recent years, with both camps submitting extensive lists of grievances and alleged damages.

The 26-year-old striker, represented by four lawyers, was absent from the hearing but outlined a series of complaints over his treatment during the 2023–24 season.

Mbappé alleges that:

He was sidelined and forced to train separately with players PSG intended to offload after refusing to renew his contract.

He was excluded from the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, missing the opening game of the season before eventually being reinstated following talks.

PSG applied the wrong legal classification to his contract under French labour laws.

He insists he made no agreement in 2023 to forfeit any financial entitlements and says his decision not to accept a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia was used against him.

Mbappé initially filed the complaint in June, citing emotional, financial, and reputational damage.

PSG, represented by seven lawyers, responded aggressively. Club lawyer Renaud Semerdjian confirmed to AFP that the club is demanding €440 million, claiming:

Loss of potential transfer revenue when Mbappé left for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Damage to the club’s image caused by the contract standoff.

Violation of an alleged agreement the player supposedly made after rejecting the Saudi transfer offer.

Semerdjian said the club’s claims reflect the financial and reputational impact of the star striker’s departure after seven seasons, during which he scored 256 goals in 308 matches.

Mbappé joined Real Madrid in 2024 on a salary reportedly worth €30 million per year. Ironically, PSG went on to win their first-ever UEFA Champions League title the season after his exit.

The case highlights longstanding concerns within French football about the practice of isolating players who refuse contract extensions — an issue that previously drew complaints from the national players’ union.

The tribunal is expected to deliver its ruling on December 16, after several weeks of deliberation.

The high-stakes legal battle marks the latest chapter in the dramatic breakdown of one of football’s most high-profile player-club relationships, with hundreds of millions of euros hanging in the balance.
