LALIGA: LOOKMAN REVEALS SIMEONE TALKS AND OUTLINES HIS GOAL TO JOIN ATLETICO MADRID

Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman has disclosed that he held direct talks with Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone before completing his move to the Spanish club.
The Nigerian international sealed a switch to the LaLiga giants during the winter transfer window, ending his spell with Italian side Atalanta. The deal is reported to be worth €35 million, with performance-related add-ons that could raise the total fee to €40 million.
Lookman was officially unveiled on Tuesday at the Riyadh Air Metropolitan auditorium, where he spoke about the discussions that influenced his decision to join the Rojiblancos.
The 28-year-old revealed that his conversation with Simeone played a key role in the transfer, describing it as encouraging and positive.
“I spoke with him and we had a good conversation. It’s wonderful to be able to communicate with the person you’ll be working with every day,” Lookman said. “It was very positive.”
Explaining his playing style and ambitions, Lookman added: “My game is very dynamic and relies heavily on speed. I want to make the difference in decisive moments.

“It’s a huge challenge to be at Atlético de Madrid. I’m truly happy to be here. Representing my country is a great responsibility, and wearing the colors of such a special club is a real honor.
“Being here means a lot to me, and I’m very proud to play in such a special league.”
The transfer brings an end to a prolonged transfer saga between Lookman and Atalanta, which spanned more than two seasons, with the forward repeatedly linked with a move away from Bergamo.
As Atlético Madrid prepare for their Copa del Rey clash against Real Betis, Simeone—regarded as a club legend for his success as both player and coach—will be hoping Lookman can make an immediate impact as the club pushes for progression in the competition.
