A former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Health, Dr. Idi Hong, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.
Hong announced his decision on Saturday in his hometown of Hong, before supporters and political associates, saying the move followed extensive consultations with members of his political structure and loyalists across the state.
“The decision to leave PDP is guided by a desire to advance development in the state and the country,” Hong said, adding that APC provides a more viable platform to achieve his goals. He also directed members of his political network to resign from PDP and fully align with APC, pledging his commitment to work for the party’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
Welcoming him, Idris Shuaibu, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), represented by Hassan Babuto, assured Hong of equal rights and opportunities within APC.
“In APC, we do not discriminate. By virtue of your registration, you are qualified to contest any position you wish,” Babuto said.
Aliyu Ahmed, APC Chairman in Hong Local Government Area, also pledged the party’s support for Hong in any capacity he chooses to serve, describing APC as a peaceful and progressive platform committed to inclusive participation. Hong has registered in Shangui Ward of Hong LGA.
