LAGOS STATE HOSTS STAKEHOLDERS SEMINAR ON REIMAGINING EDUCATION FOR THE FUTURE

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in partnership with the Stakeholders’ Forum, convened a seminar on Thursday to examine and discuss the future of education in Lagos State.

The seminar, themed “Reimagining Education for the Future,” was held at the Education Resource Centre (ERC), Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.

Mrs. Enoh Ugbona, while delivering her welcome address, greeted teachers, students, and key stakeholders, expressing gratitude for the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu toward improving the quality of education in the state.

She underscored the transformative role of technology in education, stating that its integration has led to better learning outcomes, sharpened students’ intellectual capacity, and enhanced overall academic performance. Representatives from organizations such as UNICEF ,VCARE and New Globe  also addressed participants, commending the initiative and reaffirming their support.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s developmental initiatives in the education sector, particularly the expansion of modern technological tools to improve teaching and learning across schools.

He emphasized the critical role of stakeholder collaboration, noting that strong partnerships have greatly facilitated the successful implementation of educational policies. According to him, continuous cooperation remains vital for increased effectiveness and sustainable progress.

The guest speaker, a representative of the British Council, stressed the need for the Lagos State Government to further deepen the integration of technology in schools. Referencing national data, he pointed out that Nigeria allocates only 1.9 percent of its GDP to education. Although he commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for dedicating 5.6 percent of Lagos State’s GDP to the sector, he maintained that there is still room for greater investment and improvement.

The programme also featured a panel discussion, during which Dr. James Olabi, Mrs. Enoh Ugbona, and other panelists addressed questions from participants, focusing on practical approaches to data collection and effective policy execution.

The interactive session offered attendees meaningful insights and professional guidance on how to support government initiatives aimed at advancing education throughout Lagos State.

The seminar ended with a closing prayer delivered by a member of the organizing committee, concluding a productive and impactful gathering focused on enhancing academic achievement, building students’ confidence, and promoting knowledge of artificial intelligence across the state.
