The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed plans to auction over 14,000 litres of confiscated petrol in Cross River State as part of its ongoing crackdown on fuel smuggling and to ensure the seized products are properly utilised.

Customs authorities said the petrol was intercepted during multiple anti-smuggling operations conducted along key border corridors known for illegal petroleum trafficking.

The seizures, they explained, were made amid heightened surveillance efforts aimed at protecting the country’s economy and preventing the diversion of subsidised fuel to neighbouring nations.

The NCS stated that the auction would be carried out in line with established procedures, enabling members of the public to purchase the fuel at approved rates while also serving as a deterrent to smugglers.

The agency reaffirmed its resolve to sustain operations against economic sabotage, particularly in border communities, and warned that individuals involved in illicit activities would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
