A former Besiktas director of football, Önder Özen, has described Victor Osimhen as the greatest striker in Turkiye and the surrounding region.

Özen made the comments on the Neo Spor YouTube channel following Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over Besiktas in the Istanbul derby on Saturday, where Osimhen scored the decisive goal with a header just after the 30-minute mark.

The former African Footballer of the Year has been in sensational form, either scoring or assisting in each of his last eight Süper Lig matches for Galatasaray, matching his career-best goal contributions first achieved at Napoli in 2023.

Özen highlighted Osimhen’s remarkable influence on the game, noting his key role in Galatasaray’s hard-fought victory over Besiktas.

“From Bavaria to our region, Osimhen is the greatest striker here. He contributes significantly in both attack and defense. He also disrupted Besiktas’ connections from defense to midfield, breaking their fluidity,” Özen told habersarikirmizi.com.

Osimhen has also been a major threat in the UEFA Champions League, scoring seven goals before Galatasaray’s round of 16 clash with Liverpool.

Heading into the round of 16, Kylian Mbappé leads the scoring charts with 13 goals, while Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United and Harry Kane of Bayern Munich have eight goals each. All three play for clubs in Europe’s top five leagues.
