The Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education has officially launched a landmark partnership between the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) and the state’s tertiary institutions. This strategic collaboration is designed to revolutionise human capacity development and align institutional growth with the state’s primary governance objectives.

During a high-level strategic meeting held in Alausa on Thursday, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, emphasised that this synergy will introduce a “tailor-made” curriculum. The specialised training is engineered to equip staff across all categories with the specific competencies required to drive the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda forward.

“Consistency in building the capacity of our public officials is non-negotiable,” Mr. Kasali stated. “Our goal is to ensure that our staff’s ability to deliver results is firmly rooted in government policy and the current administration’s strategic vision.”

Mr. Kasali urged state-owned institutions to leverage the PSSDC as the premier hub for public service excellence, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and institutional support.

The Director-General of the PSSDC, Mr. Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, highlighted the Centre’s unique role in bridging the gap between academic theory and executive execution. He noted that, unlike generic academic programs, the PSSDC’s approach integrates the specific nuances of Lagos State governance.

Mr. Adio-Moses further explained that the Centre has expanded its offerings for tertiary staff to include Post-Graduate Diplomas, Professional Certificates, and specialised training in academic leadership, university governance, data management, and monitoring and evaluation.

“The PSSDC understands the inner workings of Lagos State. We are uniquely positioned to combine core public service values with practical policy execution,” he remarked.

The initiative received strong endorsements from the management of the state’s flagship institutions. Deputy Vice-Chancellors Professor Akanji Bankole (LASU), Professor Abiodun Denloye (LASUSTECH), and Professor Daoudu (LASUED) collectively called for deeper cooperation. They noted that a unified approach is essential for staff to fully benefit from the Centre’s expertise and advocated for regular strategic meetings to ensure all institutions remain aligned in their capacity-building efforts.

The meeting was attended by Vice-Chancellors’ representatives, Provosts of the Lagos State College of Nursing and the Lagos State College of Health Technology, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, the Acting Director of the Lagos State Library Board, the Director of the Agency for Mass Education, and senior management from both the Ministry and the PSSDC.
