POLICE LAUNCH PROBE AFTER MAN KILLED, WIFE ABDUCTED IN KEBBI

Gunmen have killed a 35-year-old man, Sufiyanu Garba, and abducted his wife during an attack in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi in the early hours of Thursday.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the Kebbi State Police Command had launched a full investigation into the attack.

“The Kebbi State Police Command is concerned about the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of March 13, 2026, in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, which led to the death of Sufiyanu Garba, 35, and the abduction of his wife,” Usman said.

He explained that detectives quickly visited the scene and began preliminary investigations after the report was received.

According to him, the victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were later deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

Usman noted that a police checkpoint is located not far from the scene and emphasised that timely information from residents could help security operatives respond faster to emergencies.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough probe, with the aim of rescuing the abducted woman and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The command also assured residents that measures are being taken to strengthen security across the state and urged members of the public to report emergencies promptly through the police 24-hour distress lines.
