Mzough U Tiv in Taraba State has raised alarm over what it described as sustained and intensifying attacks on Tiv communities across parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Friday by its president, Hemen Agere, the group alleged that armed attackers have escalated assaults in Akate Ward of Donga Local Government Area, particularly in Tor Damsa and nearby communities.

It added that similar attacks have also been recorded in Chanchanji and Amadu areas of Takum Local Government Area.

The group expressed concern that the violence appears to be worsening despite earlier assurances by Governor Agbu Kefas that killings would end and displaced residents would soon return home.

According to MUT, both Kefas and Hyacinth Alia had on March 3, 2026, visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in Abako and Chanchanji, where they pledged improved security and humanitarian support.

However, the organisation claimed that attacks have persisted, citing a recent incident in Tor Damsa where five people, including four police officers, were reportedly killed while responding to a distress call.

MUT further alleged that significant portions of Tiv ancestral lands in the southern senatorial district remain under the control of armed groups.

The group warned of a deepening humanitarian crisis, estimating that over 150,000 people have been displaced across communities in Donga and Takum local government areas.

While acknowledging the distribution of relief materials such as rice and maize by the state government, it said the support remains inadequate given the scale of displacement.

It also alleged that since September 2025, more than 350 people have been killed and about 2,000 villages destroyed, including churches belonging to NKST and Roman Catholic denominations.

Although it recognised initial government interventions, MUT called for stronger and more decisive action to restore security and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons.

The group also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other humanitarian bodies to urgently step in, warning of increasing risks of hunger, disease, and malnutrition, especially with the rainy season approaching.

It urged both federal and state authorities to prioritise the protection of lives and property, stressing that swift intervention is crucial to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

The development follows a recent incident in which three police officers and a vigilante leader were reportedly killed by suspected militias in Tor Damsa, Takum Local Government Area.
