The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has successfully targeted a terrorist enclave in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State, resulting in the elimination of multiple insurgents.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, the operation was based on credible intelligence that indicated increased insurgent activity around the Parisu axis, deep within the forest.

Makama explained that at approximately 9:00 p.m. on March 20, an air asset was deployed to carry out an armed reconnaissance and interdiction mission over the designated area. Upon arrival, the platform established visual contact with suspected Boko Haram fighters moving in a coordinated and tactical formation.

Further surveillance revealed the insurgents converging on a concealed structure camouflaged within dense vegetation. Maintaining persistent overwatch, the aircrew tracked their movement to the hideout and executed a precision strike.

The operation successfully destroyed the structure and neutralized multiple terrorists on site. A subsequent Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) indicated that several insurgents fled from nearby hideouts in disarray, attempting to escape deeper into the forest.

Continuing the operation, the air platform tracked the fleeing fighters and conducted a follow-up strike on another identified hideout.

“The second engagement further degraded the terrorists’ capabilities, destroying additional targets and forcing the remaining fighters into a chaotic retreat,” Makama added.
