The FCT Police Command on Monday dismissed as false and misleading the videos circulating on social media that accused police officers of involvement in a shooting during a clash at the headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Garki II, Abuja.

According to the Command, officers were deployed solely to restore calm after receiving a distress call.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, explained that around 7:00 a.m. on March 23, 2026, authorities were alerted that approximately 300 individuals armed with cutlasses, bottles, bows, and arrows had invaded the NURTW headquarters and were removing items from the premises.

She added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Isyaku Sharu, led a response team to the location. Preliminary findings indicated that the group was attempting to enforce a court order without the presence of court sheriffs or other authorized officials.

According to her, the action degenerated into a physical confrontation when other NURTW members resisted the move, leading to one victim sustaining severe machete wounds to the neck.
