UPDATE: AIRPEACE SUSPENDS DUBAI FLIGHTS OVER NON-ISSUANCE OF VISAS TO NIGERIANS
Due to the non-issuance of visas to Nigerians, Nigerian airline Air Peace has ceased flights to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Emirates Airlines, a carrier based in the UAE, had previously suspended its flights due to a decrease in passengers as well as an inability to repatriate ticket proceeds.
However, the national carrier of Nigeria, Air Peace, announced that it would cease operations as of Tuesday, November 22, 2022, “until further notice.”
In a statement, the Airline said, “This is consequent upon the persisting non-issuance of visas to Nigerian travelers by the government of the United Arab Emirates and the accompanying inconveniences.
“Air Peace has been operating into the UAE even with the country’s recent travel restrictions, but given the heightening hurdles Nigerian travellers are facing in accessing the country, it has become imperative that we halt our operations to that destination. We shall provide further updates as the situation progresses.
“Passengers whose flights are affected by this development can mail our Call Centre to attend to their concerns.”
Reports had it that a few weeks ago, the UAE authorities had banned Nigerians from obtaining visas. Although no explanation for the ban was provided, the Dubai authorities announced that all applications had been halted pending the resolution of any outstanding issues between the UAE government and the Nigerian government.
Nigerians are no longer eligible for visas, according to the United Arab Emirates’ immigration authorities, who further stated that all applications are denied and that costs are not recoverable.
