In the village of Garbatau, in the Bali local government region of Taraba State, bandits have killed a farmer and kidnapped six others.

Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu was the dead, who was allegedly ambushed and slain by the bandits on his land.

Maibultu, a well-known large-scale farmer, lived in a village a few kilometers from Garba Chede town, according to a source, and the six farmers who had been kidnapped were found in Garbatau village, an agricultural community sandwiched between two mountains.

According to the informant, Adamu Dauda, a Maihula town local, revealed that the kidnappers had gotten in touch with the victims’ relatives and demanded a N100 million ransom.

He stated, “similar attacks occurred around this time last year when hundreds of kidnappers invaded the area, abducting dozens of farmers and disrupting the harvest season.”

He bemoaned the fact that history seemed to be repeating itself, as the kidnappers killed and kidnapped others, preventing farmers from harvesting their crops.

Inquiries to find out the real situation were not answered by SP Usman Abdullahi, the spokesman for the Taraba State Police Command.
