Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has indefinitely suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor said the decision was aimed at preserving integrity, discipline, and public trust within his administration.
“Any official found culpable in acts of criminality or ethical misconduct will face the full weight of the law,” Governor Alia stated, adding that the administration would not tolerate actions that bring the government into disrepute.
Aondona was arrested on Friday, June 20, in Makurdi after several female students accused him of coercing them into sexual acts as a condition for ushering jobs. According to petitions received by the EFCC, the suspect was allegedly recruiting slim and attractive young women under the guise of job offers but demanded sexual favours in return.
He is also accused of secretly recording explicit videos of the victims and using them to blackmail them via multiple messaging platforms. Some of the footage is reportedly already in circulation online.
The EFCC said it is concluding investigations and Aondona will be charged to court in due course.
