ONE DEAD, ONE INJURED AS PEUGEOT J5 BURSTS INTO FLAMES AFTER CRASH IN ABUJA

One person has died and another sustained injuries in a late-night crash involving a Peugeot J5 bus along the Kubwa–Suleja Road, opposite the Niger Barracks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), which confirmed the incident, said it occurred at about 9:21 p.m. on Wednesday when the bus, loaded with bags of groundnuts, rammed into a heavy-duty truck and burst into flames.

In a statement by FEMD’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, it was disclosed that the charred remains of the fatally injured victim had been handed over to his family for burial.

“The FCT Emergency Management Department has rescued two people trapped in a burning Peugeot J5 bus. The accident occurred along the Kubwa/Suleja Road opposite the Niger Barracks,” the statement read.

Mr. Monday Adie, Head of Operations, Search and Rescue, FEMD, confirmed that the driver of the Peugeot J5 sustained fatal burns and died at the scene. The lone survivor was taken to Asokoro General Hospital but has since been discharged at his family’s request.

The rescue operation, which lasted from 9:21 p.m. until 1:30 a.m., involved personnel from the FCT Fire Service, the Nigerian Army, and the FCT Police Command.

Reacting to the incident, the Acting Director General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged motorists to maintain caution and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy. He also encouraged residents to report emergencies using the toll-free number 112.
