NAFDAC SHUTS DOWN ILLEGAL HERBAL FACTORY IN KADUNA

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday shut down an unauthorized herbal medicine manufacturing establishment in Kaduna State.
The implicated facility, referred to as SHIFA’UNNUR, is situated in Mararaba Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Shamsuddeen Mani, a Principal Regulatory Officer of the agency who led the operation, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the facility was shut down for failing to meet minimum operational standards.

He asserted that the establishment was also functioning without proper registration, which contravened regulations.
Mani elucidated that the agency acted upon reliable intelligence and uncovered the unregistered establishment involved in the manufacture of various herbal products lacking regulatory authorization.
“We responded swiftly based on credible intelligence and initiated a crackdown on an illicit herbal medicine facility in Mararaba Jos.
“It is concerning that all the apparatus utilized in the unsanitary and concealed operation were inferior. These products present significant health hazards as their safety, quality, and effectiveness cannot be assured,” he remarked.
Mani indicated that unregistered items valued at N5 million were confiscated and would be disposed of, while the facility remained under seal pending further inquiry.
He emphasized that NAFDAC, vested by law with the responsibility to protect public health, would persist in pursuing offenders and suppressing all instances of regulatory violations and unethical practices.
