The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has commenced investigations following the discovery of a lifeless body inside a vehicle at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The deceased, suspected to be a construction labourer, was found around 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, inside a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF, parked at a construction site within the complex.

Reports indicated that the vehicle had been parked in the same spot for days before the decomposed body was discovered. Some sources identified the deceased as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, who was said to be working on one of the construction sites.

In a statement issued on Monday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that officers from the National Assembly Division responded to a distress call and evacuated the body to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel certified it had already decomposed.

“On September 7, 2025, at about 09:00 hours, the FCT Police Command received a distress call reporting the discovery of an unidentified male, suspected to be a labourer, found lifeless at a construction site within the National Assembly Complex.

The body was promptly evacuated to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that it was already in an advanced state of decomposition,” the statement partly read.

Adeh further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident while efforts are ongoing to establish the exact identity of the deceased.

This development comes shortly after the Command launched a probe into the suspected suicide of a 30-year-old man, identified as Ik Ojo, in the Kagini–Dei-Dei area of Abuja, which also raised suspicions of foul play among residents.

The Police assured the public that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
