As part of preparations for the commencement of the new academic session, Education District II recently convened a pre-resumption meeting with school principals at the Immaculate Heart Comprehensive School Hall.

In his address, the Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) commended the principals for their outstanding performance in the recently concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), describing it as a reflection of their hard work and dedication to academic excellence.

“You have all made us proud with the remarkable results achieved in the last WAEC examinations. However, we must not rest on our oars. Rather, we should consolidate on these successes and aim even higher,” the TG/PS charged.

He underscored the importance of teamwork, urging principals to work closely with their vice principals and teachers to achieve optimal performance across schools. “Do not work alone. You need to consult and collaborate for better performance,” he advised.

Speaking on preparations for resumption, the TG/PS directed that teachers should resume one week before students for adequate planning and readiness for the new session. He also emphasised discipline and decorum, instructing principals to ensure that staff and students are properly dressed and conduct themselves appropriately at all times.

On administrative responsibilities, the TG/PS reminded principals of their role as accounting officers of their schools. He stressed the importance of proper record-keeping, accountability, and safeguarding of government properties while also insisting on the preparation of detailed handover notes in the event of redeployment.

“As the accounting officers of your schools, you must take proper care of all government properties in your custody and ensure they are well managed,” he stated.

He further cautioned against the unauthorised use of school premises by external bodies, noting that only activities duly approved by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, through the District, would be permitted.

While acknowledging the primacy of academic excellence, the TG/PS encouraged principals to promote co-curricular activities to foster the all-around development of students.

He concluded by urging the newly appointed principals to seek guidance, communicate effectively, and maintain collaboration with their colleagues for continuous improvement and better results.
