Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on Thursday.

Ewhrudjakpo reportedly slumped in his office on Thursday afternoon and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, where he was confirmed dead.

In a condolence statement issued in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun described the news as a “profound shock,” noting that the late deputy governor appeared to have defied illness in a bid to continue serving the people of Bayelsa State.

“The incident is particularly painful as he was in his office attending to his duties when it happened,” Abiodun said.

The Ogun governor commiserated with Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, the government and people of the state, as well as the family of the deceased. He urged them to draw strength from the impactful life of service the late Ewhrudjakpo lived.

“No doubt, Bayelsa State and Nigeria as a whole have lost a gem,” he said. “But we take comfort in the knowledge that he lived a life dedicated to humanity and made lasting contributions to the people he served.”

Governor Abiodun prayed for God’s strength for the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of the late deputy governor’s soul.
