ALAAFIN ADVISES ACTING IGP DISU TO STRENGTHEN POLICE-PUBLIC RELATIONS

Oyo monarch, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has urged the newly appointed acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, to restore public trust in the Nigeria Police Force and champion the protection of human rights as he assumes leadership.
In a congratulatory message conveyed through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye, the monarch called on Disu to prioritise the safety of citizens, uphold the rule of law, and implement reforms that would create a more professional, accountable, and community-focused police force.
Oba Owoade highlighted that the acting IGP now carries both the responsibilities and expectations of the police, noting that his performance will significantly affect ordinary citizens and the nation as a whole.
He stated, “As you settle into your role, sir, I urge you to be professional and leave a lasting legacy by providing the Nigerians’ police they deserve, restoring public trust in the force.
“Your career has exemplified courage and resilience, demonstrating that you are exceptionally prepared for this call to service. Your leadership is expected to bridge the gap between the police and the community, fostering a safer, more secure, and citizen-friendly environment.

The monarch emphasized that building public trust is critical for effective crime reporting, crime-fighting, and the promotion of justice. He urged Disu to establish human rights desks in all police stations, state commands, and zonal commands nationwide, staffed with qualified personnel tasked with addressing human rights abuses.
Oba Owoade also congratulated the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, for his “distinguished service,” praising his decades of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening internal security.
