NIGERIAN ARRESTED IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH COCAINE WORTH $35,000
Agency Report

A 27-year-old Nigerian has been arrested in Umbilo, South Africa, for allegedly possessing cocaine valued at over R600,000 estimated at approximately $35,000 (approximately N49 million).
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly apprehended on Monday by operatives of the Metro Police Tactical Support Unit, the Metro Police Task Team, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) KwaZulu-Natal Counter Narcotics Unit.
According to reports, the arrest was carried out while officers were executing a search warrant. The suspect was said to have stepped out of his vehicle when he was intercepted by the operatives.
Authorities disclosed that high-purity cocaine concealed in a sock was recovered from the suspect, while a subsequent search of his apartment allegedly uncovered additional narcotics, bringing the total estimated value close to R600,000.
Investigators believe the suspect entered South Africa on a student visa and may be linked to a previous drug-related case in 2025.
The arrest is said to be part of an ongoing investigation into a suspected drug trafficking network with links to Nigerian nationals, allegedly involved in the importation, production, concealment, and distribution of illicit substances. Several other suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection with the operation.
Further details from investigators revealed that financial transactions continued to flow into the suspect’s account even after his arrest, prompting the involvement of the Asset Forfeiture Unit for deeper financial scrutiny.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to dismantle the network.
