Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray forward, successfully underwent surgery on Monday following an injury sustained during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 away match against Liverpool.

The injury happened in the second-leg clash at Anfield on March 18, when Osimhen collided in the air with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.

Despite the injury, the Nigerian international showed determination by attempting to continue with a bandaged arm, but he was eventually substituted at halftime as swelling and pain worsened.

Galatasaray suffered a 4-0 defeat on the night, resulting in a 1-4 aggregate exit from the competition.

Confirming the surgery on X, the club announced: “Our player, Victor Osimhen, who was injured and forced to leave our UEFA Champions League Round of 16 away match against Liverpool, successfully underwent an operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, performed by our club doctor, Op. Dr. Yener İnce.”

The statement added: “We wish our footballer a speedy recovery and hope he returns to the pitch as soon as possible.”

Despite their Champions League exit, Galatasaray will still be relying on Osimhen’s attacking prowess in their pursuit of the Super Lig and domestic cup titles.

He has netted 19 goals and contributed seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season, playing a key role in giving the club a four-point lead in the league.

In the UEFA Champions League, he scored seven goals and provided three assists in 10 matches before the team’s elimination.

Victor Osimhen has been omitted from Nigeria’s 23-man squad for this month’s friendly fixtures against Jordan and Iran, which are set to take place in Turkey.
