The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has resigned from her position, according to the media.
Her exit makes her the third cabinet member to step down following President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring appointees planning to contest in the 2027 elections to vacate their offices.
Onyejeocha announced her resignation on Friday in a letter shared via her social media accounts, coming three days after the March 31 deadline set by the president. However, she did not disclose the specific elective position she intends to pursue.

In her message, she expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve, thanking President Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, and Nigerians. She described her tenure as a privilege and noted that her resignation marks the close of one chapter and the beginning of another in her service to the country.
She also commended staff of the ministry for their dedication and contributions to improving workers’ welfare, workplace safety, and employment opportunities.
A former member of the House of Representatives who served Abia State’s Isuikwuato/Umunneochi constituency from 2007 to 2023, Onyejeocha further thanked her constituents for their continued support.
Her resignation follows those of Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, both of whom stepped down to pursue governorship ambitions in Gombe and Bauchi states, respectively.
