The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has clarified that endorsements of aspirants do not prevent others from contesting in party primaries.
Amid reports suggesting certain candidates had been adopted by party leaders, the APC dismissed claims that such endorsements would eliminate the need for direct primaries.
In a statement on Monday, the State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, emphasised that the party’s constitution allows for direct primaries where consensus cannot be reached.

He reaffirmed the stance of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and former governors Kayode Fayemi, Segun Oni, and Adeniyi Adebayo, stressing their support for a transparent and democratic process in selecting National Assembly candidates.
Dipe noted that while endorsements may occur, they do not override the right of any aspirant to contest, adding that all candidates must be given a fair opportunity to test their popularity within the party.
He also highlighted that Governor Oyebanji has remained neutral, while Fayemi and other leaders have urged aspirants to focus on winning the support of party members rather than relying on endorsements.
The party reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, urging aspirants to respect its guidelines and avoid misrepresenting the positions of its leaders.
According to the APC, all contenders should be prepared to prove their political strength at the primaries if consensus fails.
