APC WOULD NOT HAVE LOST OSUN WITHOUT ‘ABUJA POLITICIANS’ — SULE

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s defeat in the Osun State governorship election partly to interference by what he described as “Abuja politicians.”
Sule made the remarks on Tuesday in Lafia while presenting Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) acknowledgement slips to APC candidates contesting the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Nasarawa State.
According to the governor, the APC would not have lost the Osun election if certain politicians based in Abuja had stayed away from the state’s political affairs.
“APC lost partly because of the Abuja politicians. If not for some of these Abuja politicians, there was no way for APC to lose in Osun,” he said.
Sule, however, noted that the outcome also demonstrated the influence of an incumbent governor during an election.
He cautioned those celebrating the APC’s defeat, saying they might be underestimating the significance of the result and the strength of the sitting governor in Osun.
The governor also warned his party’s candidates in Nasarawa against sycophancy, blackmail and other activities capable of weakening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged them to remain loyal to the party and avoid secretly supporting candidates of other political parties while campaigning under the APC platform.
Sule said he did not support anti-party activities or political realignment, urging the candidates to focus on mobilising support for the APC.
On President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the governor said the President had performed well, while urging APC candidates to remain committed to the party’s electoral success.
Presenting the INEC acknowledgement slips, Sule explained that the documents confirm the candidates’ recognition by the electoral commission and allow them to verify the correct spelling of their names before ballot papers are printed.
