The Confederation of African Football has invited its 54 member associations to submit bids to host the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF announced the commencement of the bidding process in a statement published on its official website on Friday, saying the exercise would be guided by a transparent, credible and ethical framework in line with international best practices.

“The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has invited its Member Associations (MAs) that represent 54 African countries to submit bids to host the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2028, 2032 and 2036,” the statement read.

According to the continental football governing body, the framework for the bidding process was developed with the support of independent advisory firm PwC, alongside CAF’s technical, financial and external legal advisers.

CAF said the framework outlines the criteria for evaluating bids and selecting the successful host nation or nations for each edition of Africa’s flagship football tournament.

The body described the Africa Cup of Nations as the continent’s biggest sporting event and one of the most-watched football competitions globally.

It noted that the tournament attracts more than 3.2 billion television viewers and generates over six billion digital views worldwide.

Although CAF confirmed the opening of the bidding process, it did not disclose the submission deadlines, technical requirements or timeline for selecting the host countries.

The football body also reaffirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, branded as the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

CAF further stated that it plans to stage a senior men’s national team competition every year, except in FIFA World Cup years.

The announcement officially opens the race among CAF’s member associations to compete for the hosting rights of three future editions of Africa’s premier football tournament.
