A fire outbreak has destroyed the girls’ hostel at Dano Memorial Secondary School, Gidan Mission, Gani, in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, razing personal belongings and infrastructure but causing no casualties.
The incident occurred on Monday, shortly after students had vacated the premises for the end-of-term holiday, according to a statement released by the LGA Information Officer, Sumaila Gunduwawa, and made available on Tuesday.
The blaze, which gutted the entire hostel structure, left the students’ possessions in ruins. While the exact cause of the fire has not been determined, authorities confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained.
Chairman of the Sumaila Local Government Area, Farouk Abdu, visited the scene to assess the damage and expressed deep sympathy to the school’s management and affected students.
Describing the incident as “very unfortunate,” Abdu announced the donation of 50 bags of cement from the local government to support reconstruction efforts, assuring the school community of sustained assistance.
He was received by the School Proprietor, Rev. Alhassan Musa, who confirmed that the inferno occurred shortly after students departed for vacation. Musa thanked the local government for its swift response and support.
The council chairman was accompanied during the visit by his Vice Chairman, Adda’u Liman, Administrative Secretary, Suraj Kanawa, and Director of Personnel Management, Bappa Gaya.
In a separate engagement, Abdu also appealed for peace and tolerance between herders and farmers in Bango village, Kanawa Ward, during a mediation meeting on Monday. He urged both parties to respect each other’s rights for sustained development and communal harmony.
