GOMBE COURT GRANTS WOMAN BAIL OVER N60,000 COOKING OIL THEFT ALLEGATION

The Chief Magistrate Court No. 1 in Gombe, presided over by Chief Magistrate Musa-Saleh Kilawa, on Monday granted bail to a 55-year-old woman, Antine Amadu, who was arraigned for allegedly receiving stolen property.
Amadu, a resident of Dawaki Quarters, Gombe, was brought before the court over allegations that she knowingly received a gallon of Turkey cooking oil worth N60,000.
The prosecution told the court that the incident occurred around 1am on August 27, 2026, when Amadu allegedly received the item from Ibrahim Hassan, a resident of Aniya Quarters, Gombe.
According to the prosecution, the cooking oil had allegedly been stolen from Haruna Magaji of Ajiya Quarters, Gombe.
Presenting the case, the State Counsel, Hafsat Aliyu, said the alleged offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code Law.
Aliyu told the court that Amadu was accused of receiving property she knew or had reason to believe was stolen.
When the charge was read and explained to her, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Following her plea, the court considered her bail application and granted her bail.
Chief Magistrate Kilawa subsequently adjourned the case until September 14, 2026, for hearing.
The matter is expected to resume with the presentation of evidence and further arguments from both parties on the next adjourned date.
