GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU URGES RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN GROWTH

Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has called for significant real estate investment as a catalyst for economic growth and underlined the state’s dedication to sustainable urban development and creative housing solutions.
Speaking at the Stephen Akintayo Foundation’s prestigious Global Property Conference, which took place on Saturday at Victoria Island’s Landmark Event Centre, the Governor emphasized the transformative potential of Lagos real estate, characterizing it as a pillar of the state’s larger development objectives as well as a means of achieving personal wealth.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of developing an inclusive and sustainable urban environment for Lagos citizens, as represented by Mrs. Tope Akinbola, Director, Monitoring and Compliance Department, Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA).
He said, “Lagos is a testament to resilience and growth – a city where real estate plays a pivotal role in building a prosperous future for all. Real estate investment offers both financial returns and positive social impact, particularly when pursued through sustainable and community-centred approaches.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu further outlined his administration’s vision to transform Lagos into a technologically advanced and sustainable smart city.
He said that increasing the availability of affordable housing, enhancing infrastructure, and encouraging public-private partnerships are crucial steps in accomplishing this objective and that they are “fundamental pillars of progress.”
Sanwo-Olu praised the Stephen Akintayo Foundation for establishing a cooperative platform that allows investors, developers, and legislators to collaborate to create lasting, significant housing solutions.
The Governor urged attendees to consider more than just profit, but also to acknowledge the contribution that responsible real estate investment plays in bridging the housing gap and improving the standard of living for all Lagos residents.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of GText and Founder of Stephen Akintayo Foundation, Dr. Stephen Akintayo disclosed that Nigeria’s dream of a trillion economy can be unlocked through the real estate sector.
“I believe strongly that if we want to get the Nigeria economy back on track, create jobs, boost the economy, just like we see in UAE, and other countries of the world, investing in the Real Estate Market is the way to go,” Akintayo said.
He further said that the purpose of the conference is to discuss and address some challenges clogging the real estate sector in Nigeria from legal to police issues and government policies, just to mention a few.
Femi Falana, SAN, a well-known Nigerian lawyer, stated that without land documentation, no nation can progress and that Nigeria must carefully consider its investment prospects in this area.
Falana added that Nigeria need reform in order for the real estate industry to expand, despite the fact that real estate development worldwide is a profitable business.
The conference, which attracted stakeholders, international investors, and industry professionals, offered a vital platform for talking about difficulties, exchanging ideas, and looking into fresh investment prospects in Lagos’ thriving real estate market.
