HOUSEWIFE ALLEGEDLY SLITS HUSBAND’S THROAT IN KATSINA, POLICE FOIL BANDITS’ ATTACK

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by slitting his throat while he slept in their home in Katsina metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported the incident at the Central Market Police Division after surviving the attack.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday when Lawal allegedly attacked her husband with a knife while he was asleep, inflicting a deep cut on his neck.
The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment.
Sadiq said police operatives visited the scene, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack. He added that the suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police spokesperson said, “The victim sustained a deep cut injury to the neck. Following the report, he was rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention, where he is currently responding to treatment.”
In a separate operation, the command said it successfully repelled a bandits’ attack along the Kadisau-Sheme Road in Dandume Local Government Area after receiving a distress call that a large group of armed men riding motorcycles had been sighted in the area.
Sadiq said the Divisional Police Officer mobilised operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside personnel of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, who engaged the bandits in a gun battle.
He said the operatives overpowered the hoodlums, forcing them to flee the scene, abandoning two operational motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered as exhibits.
“The suspects were forced to retreat due to the superior firepower and tactics of the operatives. Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” he said.
Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers for their swift response and bravery in foiling the attack.
Fage reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security agencies in combating crime.
He also cautioned families against domestic violence, urging residents to resolve disputes through peaceful and lawful means.
The police noted that the latest successes came weeks after the command foiled separate kidnapping and cattle-rustling operations in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, during which 11 kidnapped passengers were rescued and 25 stolen cows recovered.
