Spain secured a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating France 2-0 in Tuesday’s semi-final clash in Arlington, Texas.

Mikel Oyarzabal gave La Roja the lead from the penalty spot after Lucas Digne brought down Lamine Yamal inside the box, while Pedro Porro added a second-half goal to seal Spain’s victory.

The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when referee Ivan Barton awarded Spain a penalty following Digne’s challenge on Yamal. Oyarzabal calmly converted the spot kick for his fifth goal of the tournament.

The goal marked the first time either side had fallen behind during their World Cup campaign.

Spain extended their advantage in the 58th minute through Porro, who finished off a well-worked team move initiated by Dani Olmo to put France under increasing pressure.

Luis de la Fuente’s men remained in control for the rest of the contest, frustrating France’s attack with a disciplined defensive display and denying Les Bleus a route back into the game.

The result sends Spain into Sunday’s World Cup final, where they will face either England or Argentina, who meet in the second semi-final on Wednesday.

France, meanwhile, saw their hopes of reaching a third successive World Cup final come to an end as Spain continued their impressive march toward global glory.
