A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election, Yakubu Kingsley, has urged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise before the July 26 deadline.

Kingsley made the appeal in a communiqué issued on Thursday following an emergency meeting of the leadership of the YMK Nigeria Project Movement, where he expressed concern over the low turnout of eligible voters despite the extension granted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC recently extended the CVR exercise by two weeks, with the registration now scheduled to end on July 26, 2026.

While commending the electoral commission for extending the exercise, Kingsley lamented that many eligible Nigerians had yet to register, warning that failure to do so could deny them the opportunity to participate in the 2027 general elections.

He described the remaining days of the registration exercise as a crucial period for Nigeria’s democracy and urged citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the deadline.

According to him, voter registration is the first step towards meaningful participation in the electoral process.

Kingsley stressed that without registration, citizens cannot obtain PVCs, and without PVCs, they cannot cast their votes during elections.

The PRP chieftain, who is challenging the outcome of the party’s presidential primary that produced former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke as the PRP’s presidential candidate, said Nigeria’s future should not be determined by a small number of voters while millions of eligible citizens remain unregistered.

He specifically encouraged youths who have attained the age of 18, women, students, artisans, professionals, farmers, traders, and persons with disabilities to visit the nearest INEC registration centres before the exercise concludes.

Describing the PVC as more than just an identification document, Kingsley said it is a powerful democratic tool that enables citizens to determine the quality of leadership through peaceful elections.

He argued that Nigeria’s current economic and security challenges—including unemployment, inflation, poverty, insecurity, and poor public services—should motivate citizens to participate actively in the electoral process rather than remain politically indifferent.

Kingsley also urged political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and avoid inflammatory statements as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

He appealed to all eligible Nigerians yet to register to seize the opportunity before the July 26 deadline, stressing that democratic participation begins with voter registration.
