The Kwara State Police Command has condemned the mob attack that led to the death of a destitute woman wrongly accused of being a kidnapper at the popular Ipata Market in Ilorin.

The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday when the woman, who was seen wandering in the market, was allegedly mistaken for a kidnapper by some members of the public. An angry mob descended on her, inflicting severe injuries before police patrol teams intervened.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the victim was rescued and taken to the General Hospital, Ilorin, but was later confirmed dead by doctors. Her body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while discreet investigations are ongoing.

The police described the act as a gross violation of the rule of law, warning that jungle justice endangers innocent lives and undermines security efforts.
