The Gombe State Police Command has intensified its efforts to combat criminal activities with the apprehension of individuals associated with motorcycle and cattle thefts across various regions of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, in a communiqué issued on Monday, stated that members of Operation Hattara detained 32-year-old Tukur Mohammed, of Kalshingi Village in Akko Local Government Area, while he was in possession of a stolen red Boxer motorcycle lacking a license plate.

““During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen the motorcycle in collaboration with one Ahmadu Buba of the same address, who is currently at large,” Abdullahi further noted.

Abdullahi stated that the motorcycle has been recovered and documented as evidence, while ongoing efforts are being made to apprehend the absent accomplice.

In a related case, the command arrested 18-year-old Abubakar Auwal, also known as Abba, in connection with the theft of a black TVS motorcycle reported missing in Dassa Village, Balanga LGA.

Abdullahi indicated that the suspect was intercepted on September 17 after patrol teams traced the motorcycle to Kembo Matinja Village.

“While one of the culprits, identified as Ali Tukur, managed to escape, Abubakar Auwal was apprehended and confessed to conspiring with his accomplice to steal the motorcycle,” the police spokesperson mentioned.

Additionally, it was reported that the command thwarted an attempt to steal cattle in Balanga LGA. According to the police, two residents of Nyanfawa Village, Talasse District, reported that their cows had been taken in the early hours of September 18.

Abdullahi noted that the patrol teams tracked the suspects to Bangu Village, where an abandoned white Hummer bus, bearing registration number ABC 884 TU, was discovered with its trunk open.

“On approaching the vehicle, the occupants fled into the bush.

“A search led to the recovery of two cows hidden in the grass, along with ropes used for tying animals, a half bag of guinea corn, and cow dung inside the vehicle,” Abdullahi added.

The statement further indicated that the cows were subsequently returned to their rightful owners through their community leader, Ardo Wakili, while the vehicle was secured as evidence.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, in the statement praised the vigilance of the patrol teams and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements from the state.

“These arrests and recoveries demonstrate our commitment to protecting lives and property.

“We urge members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely information,” Yahaya said.
